Position: Youth Peer Program (YPP) Project Coordinator

 

Responsibilities:

Manage and oversee the Sexual Reproductive Health Curriculum for Kibera School for Girls

  • Work with a team to tailor a SRH curriculum for KSG and ensure that teachers and students are being educated about all topics

 

Providing education skills and planning for peer education work

  • Use interactive methods (visual, auditory and kinesthetic) to address the diversity of learning styles among learners
  • Plan and facilitate a 5 day training for 15 newly recruited YPPs
  • Develop effective messages and materials for the YPPs to distribute
  • Conduct weekly meetings with YPPs to plan relevant topic discussions
  • Conduct monthly evaluations to assess the education levels of YPPs to ensure they are retaining the necessary knowledge on SRH

 

Develop a strong network with other organizations that can accelerateadolescent and youth agenda

  • Establish linkages with the MOH for youth friendly services and referrals
  • Provide a list of CAC and VCAT trained private providers in Kibera
  • Identify private providers in the 5 divisions covered by the project
  • Secure partnerships with 4 organizations in Kibera that can provide education support and/or skill building opportunities
  • Assist the YPPs with securing 10 schools to incorporate ASRH curriculum
  • Give counseling and referrals to health facilities or to institutions where services are available

 

Assisting peers to access contraceptives and to better understand sexual reproductive health

  • Oversee the contraceptive supplies and maintain relationship with suppliers
  • Work with PPFA to access YPP kits
  • Work with YPPs to prepare kits that contain: pills, condoms, and IEC materials

 

Organize and conduct informal and formal group discussion on anyreproductive health related issues.

  • Oversee YPP meetings each week and assist with topic selection
  • Utilize participatory theater outreach, workshops and mini-documentaries to educate on ASRH topics
  • Develop and provide ASRH awareness materials
  • Conduct community dialogues and chats on SRH

 

Giving health talks in schools weekly on sexual reproductive health

  • Manage the schools selected to work with
  • Identify, recruit and train 10 teachers on ASRH matters to support the health clubs in the schools
  • Develop the training curriculum for the teachers training
  • Ensure that there are at least 4 visits per school per month (weekly)

 

Produce consistent reports on the progress of the program

  • Utilize the PPFA reporting system to generate quarterly reports
  • Meet bi-weekly with the Clinic Manager to strategically plan upcoming events and update her/him on the progress of the program

Requirements:

A certificate in guidance and counseling

At least an years experience in Sexual and reproductive health Education

Knowledge in basic computer skills

Must be very good in data entry and reporting
