Nuru International Kenya (Nuru Kenya) is a non-governmental organization registered in Kenya.
We are a social enterprise, which means that revenues generated from our businesses are used to fund charitable programmes.
Our operations currently are concentrated in Kuria West District, Migori County, Nyanza Province.
At present our core businesses are in the agricultural sector, namely Agriculture Inputs Loans and Maize Trading.
This year we are launching a fast moving consumer goods unit focusing on hygiene, sanitation, and energy efficient products.
We are also looking at expanding into additional agricultural commodities and a dairy unit.
These businesses altogether are expected to generate an annual turnover of over 100 million Kenyan Shillings in 2013, and continue to grow rapidly.
Our charitable activities cover agriculture, community economic development, education, and health.  We focus on assistance to rural farmers and their families.
We are looking to fill the position of Social Enterprises Business Development Analyst who will research and present recommendations to expand current businesses and launch new operations.
Job Description:
The Social Enterprises Business Development Analyst is both an office and a field-level position, responsible for building networks and processes to support ongoing Business Development efforts and managing specific research, development, and strategic projects under the supervision of the SE Business Development Manager.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Research and develop opportunities for business growth and profit maximization
  • Stay informed regarding best practices related to current and potential business units
  • Manage business and product development staff
  • Manage contracted enumerators and data analysts as needed
  • Manage and build database of business development projects
  • Conduct market and industry research
  • Conduct value chain analysis
  • Build networks of industry partners, experts, and other players across the value chain to facilitate long-term information-gathering and decision-making
  • Undertake other research, reporting and management duties as assigned
  • The job requires a commitment of 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, as well as weekends and/or evenings as necessary.  This may include in-country travel.
Job Requirements:
Candidates should possess the following qualifications:
  • Valid Kenyan work permit and residency (required)
  • Fluent in English (required), Kiswahili (required) and Kikurian (preferred)
  • Experience with self-directed, sophisticated research projects requiring both field and office-based research methods (required)
  • Computer skills: proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, email and internet-based applications (required)
  • Experience with detailed financial modeling (preferred)
  • Creative, implementable strategies for starting/expanding high-growth enterprises
  • University degree in commerce, marketing, or related field (preferred)
  • Long-term commitment to ending extreme poverty in rural areas of Kuria, Kenya
  • Compensation is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
  • Applicants must currently live in Kuria West District, or be willing to relocate for this position.  Do not expect any of the following: relocation pay, monetary support for family relocation, housing or housing allowance, food allowance.
