Mount Kenya University is a Chartered and quality- driven University operating in East Africa. The University is a member of Inter University Council of East Africa (IUCEA).
Mount Kenya University , Kigali Campus, Rwanda has been awarded broadcasting frequency by the Government of the Republic of Rwanda. 
The university is working in partnership with UNICEF country office in Rwanda to actualize the establishment of MKU 107.9 FM radio station in Kigali city.
 
Location: Kigali, the capital city of the Republic of Rwanda.
 
Work permits
The Republic of Rwanda is a member state of East African Community. Kenyan employees recruited to work in Rwanda will enjoy the reciprocal/protocol status and therefore the working permits are automatic.

With a strong focus on linking mass communication training
with industry, the university seeks to recruit talented individuals with exceptional skills to steer the radio station in
meeting its training needs to serve in the following positions;
News Radio Chief Editor
News Radio chief editor or news director shall organize,
anchor and train reporters, guiding them in the direction of quality content and advising them on reporting issues to match
professional standards.
Overall responsibility will be to formulate and coordinate
the news strategy for the radio station and put in place news operational systems.
Key responsibilities:
  • Coordinate assignments for reporters as well as set the
    news agenda for the station
  • Oversee quality control of news bulletins by ensuring that
    news and features meet expected professional standards;
  • Set key performance objectives for reporters and news
    presenters;
  • Determine the news running order in consultation with the
    news team;
  • Liaise with contributors/correspondents and internal
    contacts to achieve a wider coverage of news stories;
  • Planning of big stories, and setting a system for breaking
    news;
  • Coaching and mentoring team members on areas for personal
    growth.
Skills, knowledge and experience requirement:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism;
  • At least 3 years’ experience with a proven track record of
    scripting and editing in a busy newsroom;
  • Understanding of the dynamics and complexity of
    broadcasting media;
  • People management and organizational skills.
Radio Reporter
Key Responsibilities
Radio reporters shall complete any of the following tasks:
Generate story ideas, perform research, Respond to breaking news stories, Research possible story ideas, Conduct
Interviews, Write stories and broadcast reports, and Report on entertainment, sports or news events.
Qualifications and Competencies
  • Reporters must be holders of a Bachelor degree in broadcast
    communication or journalism with at least two years’experience. A master’s degree in communication or journalism
    may be an added advantage.
  • Radio broadcast professionals must write well, possess
    strong research skills and speak articulately.
  • Reporting on the radio requires objectivity while presenting
    the facts to a listener.
Radio Program Presenters
Key Responsibilities
Radio presenters, also known as announcers, shall write and
deliver sports, news and weather reports. 
H/She shall be responsible for presenting and interviewing special guests
as well as acting as moderators for discussions.
A radio presenter shall be responsible for preparing a script.
H/She shall host or make presentations at charitable events and other public functions.
H/She shall execute technical
duties, such as working the control board, selling time slots to
advertisers and keeping accurate logs.
Qualifications and Competencies
A degree in broadcasting with at least two years’
experience. 
In addition to this H/She must have;
  • Good writing skills
  • Excellent improvisational skills and a good memory
  • Excellent team-building and leadership skills
Radio Audio Editor
Key Responsibilities
H/She shall be responsible for Post-production assembling
and modifying shot material to create finished products for transmission or exhibition. 
H/She shall work closely with
directors and producers, to identify their creative intentions and technical requirements, and to agree with editing decisions. 
H/She shall be responsible for making creative decisions, which will have significant implications for the aesthetic,
technical or commercial success of the production.
Qualifications and Competencies
H/She must be a holder of a Bachelor degree in digital
editing and must have good knowledge of sound management with at least two years’ experience. 
In addition to this H/She must
have;
  • Good organizational and administrative skills
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills
  • Excellent team-building and leadership skills
