Market Linkages Officer Jobs at Eastern Africa Grain Council (EAGC)

The Eastern Africa Grain Council (EAGC) is a membership-based organization registered in Kenya with country offices in Uganda and Tanzania. 
Our members are key stakeholders and players in the grain value chain including cereal growers, millers and processors drawn from within and outside the East Africa States. 

Our core mandate is to develop and promote orderly structured marketing systems and provide market information for grains so as to reduce transaction costs and eliminate barriers’ to regional trade.We seek to employ a Market Linkages Officer who has a strong work ethic, highly organised, team player, self motivated and able to work under minimum supervision.

Reporting to the Project Officer- Warehouse Receipt System (WRS) who is also the Team Leader – EAGC Kenya, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following amongst others:

  • Planning, developing and executing the marketing activities including identifying potential markets for commodities aggregated under WRS.
  • Establishing and maintaining an up to date database of agro-enterprises i.e. grain traders, exporters and importers in local and regional markets.
  • Maintaining and tracking of stocks in all EAGC Certified Warehouses and updating this information on the EAGC trade platform – www.egtafrica.com
  • Establish market linkages & buyers for the commodity held in the warehouses.
  • Sensitizing and creating awareness about WRS to farmers, traders and other stakeholder through trainings, field days, workshops, fairs and any other forums.
  • Collecting and relaying relevant market information to EAGC including crop production updates, price information, grain supply and demand, grain sources etc.
  • Identifying and participating in market linkage forums with an aim of marketing EAGC’s services to potential members as well as marketing WRS aggregated commodities.
  • Supporting EAGC sponsored marketing activities such as Agribusiness fairs and Grain Summits.
  • Identifying appropriate areas of research and conducting studies on key issues affecting the grain sector.
  • Writing regional weekly research – based market analysis reports on key topical issues on the grain sector.
  • Collecting, collating and developing articles for the grain newsletter.
  • Recruiting members and maintaining an updated members register.
  • Managing relationships and ensuring member satisfaction through regular contact and prompt resolution of issues arising.
Qualification, Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce; Business Administration/ Management, Sales & Marketing.
  • Two (2) years relevant working experience.
  • Experience working in agricultural oriented sales and marketing / agribusiness will be an added advantage.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A problem solver, team player and independent thinker.
  • Capacity to manage several tasks simultaneously.
  • Be flexible and willing to assume a range of unanticipated assignments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in use of Ms Office suite.
