Program Description: Research Care and Training Program (RCTP) is collaboration between the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and University of Washington (UW).
RCTP leads the Family AIDS Care and Education Services (FACES) program, a comprehensive HIV Prevention, Care and Treatment program working in 100 clinics in Nyanza Province, Kenya.
We have vacancies for a team required for the new study on injection drug use and HIV risk in Nyanza Province

Position: Interview and Field Assistant

Reports to: Principal Investigator
 

Location: Kisumu
 
Duration: Six Months

Job Summary
The Interviewer and Field Assistant will carry out fieldwork and conduct interviews.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Locating and recruiting study participants, and conducting fieldwork,
  • Epidemiologic surveys and in-depth interviews with active drug using populations.
  • Wide variety of field activities, including community outreach, field-based behavioral observations, and interviews that require sensitivity, ingenuity, and flexibility.
  • Assisting with data entry, transcription and translation of in-depth interviews,
  • Data analysis, and interpretation
  • Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
Minimum requirements
  • Diploma in Social sciences, Community Development, Community Health, Nursing, Clinical Medicine, or equivalent
  • Fluency (written and verbal) in English, Swahili, and Dholuo
  • Prior health-related research experience, conducting community outreach and/or participant recruitment
  • Basic computer skills are strongly preferred.
Other Skills and Attributes
  • Mature, responsible, dependent, highly organized, motivated
  • Able to maintain the highest ethical standards in conducting research
  • Interest in health issues related to drug use and a passion for working with socially marginalized populations highly desired.
