Network Operations Centre (NOC) Engineer
Job Description
Continuous and proactive monitoring of all network and systems elements. This includes the core IP network, international and in-country fiber backbone links, HFC and GPON triple play network (cable TV/broadband/Voice), direct-to-home (DTH) satellite pay-TV as well datacenter facilities – generators, UPS, air-conditioning, access control etc
Timely detection, troubleshooting and resolution of faults of all network/systems elements.
Handle service escalations from the customer service help desk.
Tracking and regular reporting of all faults within the network. Provide notification and status updates on outages to all stakeholders.
Maintenance of WIKI and technical documentation (for NOC) of processes and procedures used throughout normal operations
Document all the events that transpire during the shift.
Escalation and reporting of faults within a defined escalation structure in the company and to relevant service providers.
Management and proactive use of all tools provided to ensure high availability and attainment of service levels as per the service level agreements (SLAs).
Provisioning of customer network services on core equipment.
Answer incoming telephone calls/tickets to NOC and take actions as required.
Detect, track and resolve alarms from the NMS using the trouble tracking systems.
Ready to work in shifts.
Qualifications and desirable attributes
  • Bachelors Degree in IT; electrical/electronics/telecommunications engineering or computer science.
  • At least two years of highly technical work experience, NOC work experience preferred.
  • Cisco or other certifications desired.
  • Very strong understanding of IP networks.
  • Knowledge and experience of routing and switching protocols.
  • Knowledge of UNIX, hardware configuration / support / troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge and experience in network/systems monitoring tools and protocols
  • Ability to grasp new concepts quickly such as cable TV systems and HFC networks.
  • Must be eager and quick to learn, be clear communicators and must be able to use their initiative to tackle a broad range of problems.
  • Effective communication skills and good telephone etiquette.
  • Planning and organizational skills.
  • Being reliable and taking initiative to track down and resolve issues.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
