The ICRC Somalia Delegation in Nairobi implements the institution’s humanitarian activities in Somalia.

Communication Officer

The Profile:

ICRC is looking for young and energetic individuals who have good organisational, interpersonal and communication skills. 
The successful candidate should have a sense of analysis and initiative, the ability to work independently and in a team. 

The above position demands flexibility and the ability to work under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Initiates, produces and supervises the production process of print, promotional and audio-visual products, ensuring the production of quality communication tools in line with the ICRC’s cooperate visual identity;
  • Implements the field production strategy and manages the Stock in collaboration with Logistics;
  • Contributes to planning for results (PFR) exercise for the delegation;
  • Manages the field production Book (FPB) exercise for the delegation;
  • Manages library (Photos, publications, videos, design files, etc.) and the production databases;
  • Manages the local web platform;
  • Gives coaching to colleagues on Corporate visual identity and basic print production practices;
  • Contributes pro-actively to the definition of the ICRC’s public communication strategy and tools;
  • Communicates and makes various presentations to different target publics (general pop, civil authorities, media etc.);
  • Contributes to the development and production of dissemination tools;
  • Executes administrative and office work related to the project.
Minimum Requirements
  • University degree (communication, arts, journalism, Marketing);
  • 3 years’ work experience in a similar field of activity;• Excellent knowledge of Website platform management and online communication
  • Knowledge of basic design/layout principles, including branding;
  • Excellent knowledge pre-press production workflow and technology;
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and Somali; French an asset;
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills;
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills;
  • Good knowledge of the political, social and cultural assigned environment;
  • Ability to travel and work in Somalia;
  • Very good computer literacy.
Other Requirements:
  • Experience in humanitarian work;
  • Flexibility and willingness to be based in various regions and travel inside Somalia, and ability to work in hardship areas;
  • Maturity in dealing with sensitive matters in a highly confidential manner.

Legal Advisor (IHL & Sharia Law)

The ICRC Regional Delegation in Nairobi is seeking for an experienced and highly motivated person to fill the above-mentioned position.

Responsibilities:
  • Provides the Delegations in the region of assignment with an analysis of the Islamic communities and groups, trends and other information relevant for the interaction of the Delegation with Islamic circles;
  • Supports ICRC and RCRC Movement dialogue on IHL and Islamic laws of war and principles of humanitarian action within Islamic circles;
  • Supports delegations in the Region of assignment to network with Islamic circles and to integrate them into networking events and activities;
  • Responsible for preparing the annual budgets and contribution to planning for results for activities to Islamic circles;
  • Responsible for compiling all institutional reports concerning the target group as required;
  • Maintains and develops together with the networking field officer contacts with a wide range of Islamic and related interlocutors, including religio-political leaders, heads of educational institutions (including madaris), Islamic charities, media and other organisations in coordination with the concerned delegations;
  • Improves, in collaboration with the Protection, Communication departments and networking field officer the quality of dialogue with all interlocutors, also by developing key messages of relevance to them;
  • Consolidates the mapping of Islamic circles and related interlocutors, carrying out research and analysis to understand the inter-linkages and dynamics between them;
  • Contributes to the institutional research on IHL and relevant Islamic Law in order to further develop ICRC publications and ICRC presentations and course modules;
  • Organises, IHL and Islamic Law related dissemination workshops, round tables, seminars and courses for teachers and advanced students of Islamic educational institutions in co-operation with external consultants and the ICRC Legal Adviser /Legal Officer. Seeks synergies with existing activities to promote IHL;
  • Develops an appropriate curriculum for the workshops on IHL and Islamic Law related to humanitarian issues and treatment of protected persons.
Minimum requirements:
  • University degree in Law;
  • 4-6 years work experience in a similar field;
  • Good knowledge of; Islamic Law, International Law including IHL;
  • Fluent in written and spoken English, and Swahili; Arabic and Somali an asset;
  • Confirmed capacity to analyse the political and social environment.

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Technician
The ICRC Regional Delegation in Nairobi is seeking for an experienced and highly motivated person to fill the above mentioned position.
Responsibilities
  • Provide support by assisting computer users on a day to day basis;
  • Ensure proper functioning of computers, printers and the network environment;
  • Assist in the introduction of computer technologies and ensure error free standard software and hardware installed and configuration on workstations according to ICRC policy;
  • Install and maintain connectivity devices on ICRC LAN’s;
  • Train, support and advise computer, radio and telephone users in the region;
  • Administer and maintain IT inventory;
  • Plan, install, maintain and repair all the radio communication systems (i.e. Mobile & fixed radio installations, repeaters, operational radio room) in the region;
  • Undertake Field Missions within the region as requested.
Minimum Requirements
  • Degree or Diploma in Information Technology;
  • Professional certification in a Network Operating System or Software Development;
  • Good knowledge of computer hardware / software, utilities, printers and peripherals;
  • Experience in HF & VHF radio installations and technologies;
  • At least (3) three years experience in Network Administration;
  • Knowledge of French is an added advantage.
