Logistics Officer at Feed The Children Kenya

Reports to: Commodity CoordinatorFeed The Children – Kenya, a Christian NGO is seeking to recruit the position of logistics officer to work in the Programs Department in supporting the FTC and WFP Food Programme activities for relief, emergency and school meals and other commodity handling within the Programs.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintain proper records of all food and non-food items/commodities received and distributed by physical counts, random weight checks, rejection of any spoiled commodity, reconditioning of underweight bags etc. 
  • Ensure commodities reach the intended delivery points without delay and in good condition. 
  • Submit stock replenishment requisitions for relevant action. 
  • Handle the WFP activities with FTCK in food assistance for relief, emergency school feeding and emergency rehabilitation projects. 
  • Schedule with the transporters for delivery of commodities under operations department or contracted services. 
  • Liaise with head teachers/managers to ensure that commodities are received as required at the schools. 
  • Keep track of weekly stock movements and submit a weekly stock movement report to WFP weekly. 
  • Develop food distribution plan for each term indicating quantities to be delivered to warehouse by WFP. 
  • Set up measures to prevent delays or loss of food commodities in storage and during transportation. 
  • Review transporters invoices for accuracy when used. 
  • Maintain clean and pest free storing conditions and good warehouse practices. 
  • Supervise offloading and stacking of the commodities, and tracking of the commodities in pipeline and report to the coordinator. 
  • Ensure the warehouse supervisor and project officers and schools heads/managers handling commodity items keep accurate records of the commodities and in adherence to FTC procedures. 
  • Sign waybills of received and dispatched cargo. 
  • Deliver goods on request against official and approved documentation. 
  • Keep updated records on stack cards, and/or computer inventory lists and periodic physical inventory checks. 
  • Liaise with Project officers, Procurement, Grants Accountant and others on commodity logistics. 
  • Report and consult with others units to take appropriate action for the disposal of spoilt commodities. 
  • Provide overall support supervision and training of project officers, drivers, storekeepers and casuals. 
  • Be flexible and willing to perform any other relevant duties as & when assigned by the management of FTCK.
Minimum Requirements: 
  • Education: Relevant Degree in Social sciences. 
  • Experience: Experience working with commodity/stock movement computer packages/programs and utilising computers including office packages word spread sheets and other software and logistics handling of commodities. 
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of WFP administrative regulations and rules, and WFP policies and procedures in the area of commodity handling. 
  • Understanding of Child Protection Policy 
  • Able to understand FTC procedures in commodity handling. 
  • Adherence to FTC policies and regulations.
