Research Associate at CIMMYT – World Agroforestry Centre ICRAF

The Position: The incumbent will provide technical support to the Scientists in organizing, planting and managing trials in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Organize, plant and manage herbicide formulation trials in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
  • Organize, plant and manage multi-location variety evaluation trials of herbicide resistant maize in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
  • Organize, plant and manage seed increase activities in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
  • Manage data collection from variety evaluation and cropping system trials.
  • Carry out data entry, management and analysis for variety evaluation and cropping system trials.
  • Coordinate and conduct on-station and on-farm trials.
  • Assist in drafting technical reports and journal papers from CIMMYT research related work.
  • Assist Scientists with sampling plants for quality control among herbicide resistant maize lines.
  • Support seed companies in Seed Production, Packaging, Shipment, and Regulatory requirements.
Administration
  • Provide technical support to CIMMYT Scientists.
  • Supervise field staff.
  • Network with partners/stakeholders and train them in cropping system, data collection and analysis.
  • Any other duties and miscellaneous tasks as required and as assigned from time to time.
Networking and Workshops
  • Assist in drafting seminar, workshop and conference papers.
  • Organize, attend and participate in training workshops, project meetings.
Essential Qualifications
  • A Master’s degree in Seed Science, Plant Breeding, Agronomy or Crop Protection.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a related field.
  • Strong statistical skills in SAS, Gensat or R packages.
  • Evidence of experience in draft technical reports and journal papers.
  • Practical experience in field experimental work.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work efficiently and independently.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in the seed industry and knowledge in seed sales.
  • Good interpersonal skills, integrity, honesty and self-motivation.
  • Able to work well within a team.
  • Driving competency.
