ICRISAT Regional Office for ESA is located in Nairobi, Kenya and is currently seeking a qualified candidate to fill a locally recruited position of a Driver.
 
Vacancy: Driver – ICRISAT
About the position
To provide logistical support to the operations of the Regional Office (ESA).
 
Primary duties and responsibilities
  • Vehicle maintenance: Ensure that the vehicles are kept tidy, clean and in good working condition.
  • Preventive maintenance: Update vehicle services schedule, perform early diagnosis for any defects and arrange for the service/repairs to be done at pre-selected service providers (dealers or garage).
  • Driving: Adhere to safe driving practices and maintain a high standard of service whilst observing road traffic laws and regulations.
  • Liaise with the service providers to ensure that the vehicles’ service/repair work is satisfactory
  • Ensure that all vehicles are insured, booking vehicles for inspection and ensuring that relevant stickers are in place.
  • Supplies: Facilitate collection of quotations for farm/office supplies and delivery to field stations.
  • Protocol matters: Assist in obtaining visas and re-entry permits for staff and visitors.
  • Assist in applying for diplomatic identity cards for international staff.
  • General assistance: Pick up; drop offs for staff and visitors.
  • Perform town-run errands including delivering official documents.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.
Requirements
  • Completion of Secondary School education.
  • Good command of English.
  • Hold a clean Driving License.
  • Provision of a Certificate of Good Conduct.
  • Good personal organization, honesty and reliability.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Well-developed driving skills with emphasis on mechanical knowledge, maintenance and safety of vehicles.
  • Training in Motor Vehicle Mechanic Grade III is desirable.
  • Diagnostic skills to ensure early detection of faults in vehicles.
  • Understanding of legal issues relating to motor vehicle operations within East Africa.
  • 5 years driving experience, preferably with an international organisation.

ICRISAT Regional Office for ESA is located in Nairobi, Kenya and is currently seeking a qualified candidate to fill the locally recruited position of a Research Assistant.


About the position: To support and direct laboratory activities to ensure successful completion of research projects/programs in compliance with set standards and to optimally utilize all laboratory resources in a cost effective manner.

Primary duties and responsibilities
  • Devise and conduct experiments;
  • Process and analyze results and data;
  • Communicate results to the responsible scientists through written reports;
  • Collaborate with industry/academia to apply the results of research and develop new techniques, products or practices;
  • Present ongoing work and findings to colleagues within ICRISAT as well as in academic conferences, summarizing the nature of their research, their methodology and their findings;
  • Carry out the necessary field work to inform their research;
  • Teach and demonstrate relevant procedures to students and other trainees attached to the laboratory including other members of staff;
  • Devise or help to draw up new research ideas;
  • Work in multidisciplinary teams across different local universities and research institutions;
  • Organize and plan for the acquisition and proper maintenance of laboratory supplies, consumables and equipment;
  • Ensure proper and responsible utilization of laboratory supplies and equipment by the laboratory team.
Requirements
  • A Master’s degree in Biotechnology, Molecular Biology or Genetics;
  • Experience working in a genomics laboratory including design and implementation of genomics experiments;
  • Knowledge of molecular markers, genome mapping, genotyping using automated systems as well as analysis of molecular data;
  • Very strong analytical skills and applied statistical genetics experience.

Vacancy: Research Technician – ICRISAT
ICRISAT Regional Office for ESA is located in Nairobi, Kenya and is currently seeking a qualified candidate to fill the locally recruited position of a Research Technician.
 
About the position: The Research Technician will be responsible for providing technical support to the Scientist – Legume Breeding.

Primary duties and responsibilities
  • Manage the Legumes Breeding activities at ICRISAT’s Field Research Station in Kiboko (Makueni County) including land allocation, labour, budgeting, machinery, assets.
  • Plant and manage legume and cereal field research trials , husbandry and field sanitation
  • Data Collection, entry and analysis for the ESA region and maintenance of database.
  • Management of on farm trials and report writing.
  • Procurement of farm inputs and consumables.
  • Capacity building of farmers, students and other collaborators.
  • Germplasm collection, characterization, rejuvenation and maintenance
  • Recruit and supervise casuals at the field station
  • Carry out administrative duties at the station.
  • Carry out on station renovations.
  • Supervise, monitor, collect data and organize evaluation and field days for on farm trials.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Agriculture or a related field, with at least 2 years relevant technical experience.
  • Experience in a research environment, specifically in field layout, data analysis, and field crops management.
  • Computer literacy in MS Office.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team setting.
  • Strong English language skills, both spoken and written.
