Librarian at Kenya YMCA National Training Institute

The Kenya YMCA National Training Institute (KYMCA NTI) was established in 1966 as YMCA Crafts Training Centre with the aim of providing vocational training to young school leavers. 
In 2005, it was rebranded to National Training Institute and its programmes reviewed so as to meet the emerging students, industry and business needs.

The KYMCA NTI is seeking to recruit for the following position:


Job Purpose: Responsible for daily operation of the college library
Reports to: Principal
 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop library policies and procedures
  • Organizing resources in an accessible way
  • Stock maintenance, including the weeding out of old resources
  • Developing the use of ICT to improve service delivery
  • Developing and managing collections of books and journals (both paper & electronic)
  • Creating, updating and managing information resources (both electronic and printed)
  • Selecting, acquiring and cataloguing information using library and information software
  • Managing and supporting the provision of reading lists and allocating length of loans
  • Delivering information and learning skills courses for students and lecturers.
  • Dealing with user enquiries, which may involve one-on-one advice sessions
  • Liaising with academic departments and contributing to academic course development
  • Prepare the library budget
  • Keeping up to date with relevant professional developments in the library sector
  • Any other duty as assigned
Qualifications and experience
  • Degree in Information Science
  • At least 5 years work experience at a post-secondary institution

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including influencing, networking & negotiating skills and an ability to promote innovative services clearly
  • Diplomacy, persuasiveness & assertiveness
  • Capacity to complete projects independently and collaboratively
  • A willingness to take responsibility, to propose and deliver solutions to difficult problems
  • Aptitude for customer service
