Cashier at Norwegian Church Aid

Duration: Fixed term, ending on 31st December 2015

Background: NCA works towards attainment and realization of peoples’ rights through the development of sustainable initiatives and strengthening of local capacities.

NCA’s interventions in Kenya focus mainly on climate change, gender-based violence, women and governance and livelihoods and trade. Kenya Programme activities are clustered in Mandera, Embu, Yatta, Nairobi, Kajiado and Lamu/Tana River.Main Responsibilities of Post Holder

  • Paying out and maintaining petty cash records.
  • Preparation of payment vouchers for all cheques, telegraphic transfers and cash transactions.
  • Ensuring that physical cash balances reconcile to relevant ledgers; any variance should be identifiable.
  • Keying in of payment vouchers in the accounting system for all Banks and petty cash.
  • Filing and keeping documentation of all payments vouchers
  • Issue receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers.
  • Allocation of fuel, internet & phone/fax bills charges to various projects.
  • Taking custody of spare keys and store them in the Office safe.
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the FM or his/her seniors
Job Requirements:Education:

  • KCSE education, with a minimum grade B
  • University Degree in Finance or Accounting is an added advantage
Professional Training:
  • Professional accountancy qualifications, with a minimum CPA 3/ACCA or its equivalent
Experience:
  • At least 3 years NGO work experience in a finance or audit department
  • Experience in using an accounting package like Navision, Quick Books, Sage, Maconomy or any other package recognized in the industry.
Skills:
  • Ability to work under pressure, independently and with limited supervision
  • Proficiency in the use of MS-Office Suite and internet
  • High level of patience and cross cultural adaptability and sensitivity
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
Language: Excellent written and spoken English.The successful candidate will be expected to show commitment to NCA’s vision, mission, values and strategies.
