IT Specialist at The International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC)

Background: The International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) is a non-profit public international organization addressing critical issues such as international food security, the alleviation of global hunger and poverty, environmental protection and the promotion of economic development and self-sufficiency. 
IFDC works collaboratively with various institutions including governments, the private sector, national agricultural research and extension systems, Universities, International Agricultural Research Systems and other stakeholders to implement research and training programs to enhance agricultural performance.

To support its projects IFDC needs to fill the following vacancy tenable in Nairobi:
 
Specific Responsibilities:
  • This position has the overall responsibility for the information technology (IT) requirements and for maintaining the infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted quality network availability.
  • Administering all physical infrastructure including servers, computers, and printers (e.g., implementation and operation of office systems such as Microsoft Office, Desktop Applications; Local Area Networks [LAN]);
  • Managing local and remote user access, ensuring 24/7 availability, data security, patch installation, and backup capabilities (e.g., maintaining accurate hardware and software inventories; all technical equipment);
  • Ensuring system improvements in keeping with new technologies (e.g., making recommendations for all systems, processes, infrastructure, etc.);
  • Ensuring that all databases and modules are properly stored, backed up, and accessible to the proper staff (e.g., backup files and data to secure locations);
  • Maintains systems, databases, and web pages;
  • Administers users accounts and configures laptops and desktop computers and peripherals by assigning security levels;
  • Provide technical assistance and to ESAFD projects in MIS, database management, and to hardware/software support.
Key Competencies and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS,
  • 5+ years of experience including data base management and hardware and software support. Master’s degree preferred.
  • This position requires an understanding of IT system requirements and infrastructure, and the ability to manage an IT system that is used by multi locational offices with limited connectivity. This job may involve the following:
  • Ability to understand, plan, manage, maintain, and operate a complex IT system (e.g., systematically developing the IT system to meet the requirements of the center)
  • Ability to develop policies, technical standards, guidelines, and procedures to govern the use of the IT systems and network
