Program Coordinator AT Shining Hope for Communities

Position: Success in Kenya Program Coordinator
Location: Kibera, Nairobi
Reporting Time: 8:00am-5:00pm Monday to Friday and May have to work on Saturdays
Job Purpose: Manage the Success in Kenya Program at the Kibera School for Girls, particularly the mentorship program. 
Work closely with the head mistress to organize out of school activities and arrange partnerships with other organizations with the goal of increasing exposure for students.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Recruit mentors from strategic corporations and other partners
  • Add to the existing ‘Mentorship Activity Guide’
  • Plan and run monthly mentorship events
  • Schedule office visits to expose students to various careers in Kenya
  • Arrange for speakers to come and address the students
  • Work closely with the Head Mistress on other activities that will benefit the students
  • Provide on-the-ground logistical and informational support to direct supervisor and broader Kenya team as directed
  • Perform any other job assigned
Education and Experience
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in any social sciences/ education or Psychology fields.
  • Computer Literate
  • The ideal candidate MUST have at least 2 years experience running and/or participating in mentorship programs
  • The candidate should be readily available
  • The ideal candidate must be passionate about working in the slum
  • The candidate must be open to a flexible working schedule as most mentorship events will take place on the weekend

  • Organizational and planning skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Self-motivated and independent; able to excel with limited oversight

  • Ability to follow-up
  • Passion for working with underprivileged children and motivated by advancing girls’ education
  • Comfortable working in informal settlements
