Accountant and Accounts Assistant – Tanzanian at Longhorn Publishers

Longhorn Publishers Tanzania, a leading firm with a strong presence in Eastern Africa region whose core business is publishing and distributing educational and leisure publications, wishes to recruit a dynamic and results oriented individual to fill the following post:

Accountant

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensuring correctness of the general & subsidiary ledgers.
  • Reviewing accounting journals before posting into the system.
  • Ensuring Prompt collection of debts.
  • Ensuring reconciliation of all general ledger accounts.
  • Updating and reconciling the fixed assets register with the general ledger.
  • Preparing accurate and timely management / financial accounts reports to facilitate decision making.
  • Facilitating tax audits for compliance and following up on VAT refunds.
  • Liaising with insurance brokers to ensure adequate cover of the company assets and staff.
  • Participating in the preparation of annual company budgets.
  • Coordinating annual audit.
  • Ensuring timely and accurate preparation of daily bank position.
  • In charge of inventory
  • Support the preparation of budget and other financial forecasts.
  • Establish and maintain supplier accounts.
  • Posting and reconciliation of stocks.
  • Establish and maintain customer accounts.
  • Processing of all financial transactions in the General Ledger.
  • Monitor ongoing levels of expenditure on individual activities against approved budgets.
  • Ensure proper implementation of all the internal controls.
Job Specifications
  • Must be a Tanzanian Citizen
  • Bachelors degree in Commerce or a related field and CPA (T)
  • Minimum three years of progressive relevant experience
  • Knowledgeable in ERP and Ms Office packages. Knowledge of Navision will be an added advantage
  • Not more than 35 years old
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Provide three referees, who must be current and previous employers where one has worked for more than one employer
Position: Accounts Assistant
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain cash controls.
  • Preparation of P & T returns
  • Managing and issuing of stocks
  • Managing office petty cash
  • Process supplier invoices and payments.
  • Maintain the purchase order system.
  • Process Company related activities disbursements.
  • Process travel requests and review expense reports from sales representatives.
  • Process sales invoices and collections accordingly.
  • Support in the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements.
  • Handle all tax matters e.g. PAYE, VAT, WHT, Corporation Tax.
  • Assist in preparation of annual audit schedules and coordinate the audit activity.
Job Specifications
  • Must be a Tanzanian Citizen
  • Degree/Diploma in a Finance related field
  • Minimum two years of progressive relevant experience
  • Knowledgeable in ERP and Ms Office packages. Knowledge of Navision will be an added advantage
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Provide three referees, who must be current and previous employers where one has worked for more than one employer
