Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO) is a 100% state-owned corporation incorporated on 2nd December, 2008 under the Company’s Act, Cap 486 as a State Corporation pursuant to the Sessional Paper No. 4 of 2004 on Energy. 
The Mandate of the Company is to plan, design, construct, operate and maintain high voltage electricity transmission infrastructure, the National Electricity Transmission Grid and Regional Interconnectors.
KETRACO’s Vision is to be a world-class electricity transmission company and the leading inter-connector in Africa. 
The Mission of the Company is to build and operate a national electricity transmission network that is reliable, efficient, effective, safe and environment-friendly through innovative and best practices; and to promote regional power trade for socio-economic development.
To achieve the above mandate, KETRACO has so far completed and commissioned 756km of transmission lines with 5000km committed and on-going projects. 
The company has a capital base of over Kshs. 77 Billion. In addition; and to increase access to electricity, KETRACO plans to construct additional 7000km of transmission lines in the next five years.

In order to meet the planned growth and improve access to electricity in Kenya, KETRACO wishes to identify and recruit capable officers to fill the following position:
Safety and Health Officer

Reporting to: Senior Safety & Health Officer
 
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Carry out safety and health inspections for identification of hazards, unsafe acts, unsafe conditions and suggest actions for improvement;
  • Carry out safety and health audits;
  • Carry out safety and health risk assessments;
  • Undertake incident investigations and compile reports;
  • Ensure that firefighting and detection equipment owned by KETRACO are regularly maintained and records kept;
  • Ensure that first aid boxes are regularly maintained;
  • Monitoring safety and health performance of contractors through analysis of monthly report forms received from the contractors;
  • Maintain data base of all safety incidents reported;
  • Provide safety and health services in Project Implementation Teams;
  • Participate in carrying out regular staff sensitization workshops/training sessions on safety, health and emergency preparedness;
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual safety and health reports.
Education / Professional Qualification
  • Minimum of an undergraduate degree preferably in science or engineering
  • Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health or a higher safety and health qualification will be an added advantage
  • At least five (5) years working experience in occupational safety and health
  • Experience in workplace safety and health audits will be an added advantage
  • Be computer literate

  • Possess safety and health risk assessment skills;
  • Ability to provide problem solving and analytical skills;
  • Ability to provide sound decision making and judgment skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain high work standards; and
  • Willingness to work odd hours when necessary
  • Be a team player;
