Job Description: LGBTI Intern

Overall Purpose of the Job

To ensure LGBTI persons are participating in public and democratic spaces.
Project interactions and target groups: LGBTI Rights organizations, Human Rights organizations.
Representatives of Religious Organizations, Lawyers, and Judges.
 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work towards the realization of the LGBTI movements Multi-Tier Approach (MTA) for Equality & Non-Discrimination.
  • Link in with international human rights interventions on LGBTI rights.
  • Strengthen the capacity and visibility of LGBTI organizations.
  • Carry out urgent action response to human rights violations faced by LGBTI persons.
  • Represent KHRC at LGBTI ‘Litigation Collective’ meetings.
  • Build relationships with religious stakeholders. organizations looking at the inter-sectionality between
  • LGBTI persons and persons with disabilities and mainstream human rights organizations on LGBTI rights.
  • Build relationships with lawyers and the judiciary on LGBTI rights.
  • Assist with fundraising for KHRC‘s LGBTI work.
Qualifications & Experience
  • A degree in Law, Political Science, Public Policy, Anthropology or other relevant social science.
  • At least a years’ experience of working on LGBTI Rights issues in Kenya.
  • A strong understanding of the national, regional and international LGBTI rights issues and relevant mechanisms.
  • Proven track record in undertaking research, policy/legislative work and advocacy on LGBTI rights issues.
  • Demonstrable experience of working with or coordinating partnerships with community and national level organizations and networks.
