IT Intern at Danish Refugee Council (DRC)

Background
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has been providing relief and development services in the Horn of Africa since 1997. 
Using a protection of human rights framework, DRC has mainly focused on Somalis who are displaced by conflict. 
Programmes include protection, livelihoods, food distribution, water and sanitation, emergency relief and advocacy amongst others. 

There are 4 main programme offices in Somali region, one in Yemen, one in Kenya and one regional office in Nairobi. There are also regional programmes, which are supported from the regional offices. Currently there are over 150 DRC staff in the region.

The last two years have seen some growth in programme size, but primarily there has been a growth in the number of support and management functions demanded and required by the programme offices, in order to maintain quality and accountability.
 
Purpose
The intern will provide additional support required to maintain a standard level of service to the office.
In addition, as the Regional Office embarks on an IT improvement plan, additional support will be required to implement and support the IT plan.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in performing software installations and support day-to-day systems operations.
  • Trouble shooting the LAN.
  • Hardware and software support.
  • Ensure that the anti-virus within the organization is updated on a timely basis.
  • Performing preventive maintenance service on the IT equipment on a scheduled basis.
  • Perform general repairs on IT equipment and peripherals as instructed
  • Support to maintain an inventory schedule of all IT equipment and software in use and in the store, through diagnosing their status and performance.
  • Maintain a record of all equipment received for repairs and maintenance. Ensure that internet invoices are received on time and forwarded to finance for payment
  • Provide help desk and technical support to the users.
  • Provide Simple guidelines training to the staff during service time.
Reporting Arrangements
Reports to Regional IT Manager.
 
Duration: Starts in January 2014, for a period of 6 months

Qualifications
  • BSC IT/Computer science or any relevant field.
  • A+, N+, CCNA certification
  • Web Design – HTML and CSS
  • Good communication skills.
  • Flexible person and ready to work on odd hours.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Team player.
