Health Rights Advocacy Forum (HERAF) is a non-governmental organization that brings together Health Professionals, NGOs, FBOs and PLWHA organizations to empower Kenyans to realize the right to health for all. It was established in 2006 and registered as a non-governmental organization in Kenya by the NGO coordination board in 2007.

HERAF is currently implementing interventions to provide knowledge and information on health as a fundamental human right; advocating for reforms in health and HIV&AIDS policies; rooting for sustainable health financing; carrying out budget tracking and analysis, promoting community participation in health sector management and governance and strengthening the institutional capacity of partners in various counties to implement HIV/AIDs related projects

Vacancy: Accounts Assistant

Job Summary

To assist in performing accounting duties including budgeting, book-keeping and preparation of financial reports, audit and administrative duties

Duties and Responsibility

The job holder’s duties and responsibilities are outlined as follows:

Facilitating finance management in the following ways:

1. Preparing monthly reconciliations and maintain accurate bookkeeping records
2. Budgetary control and cash flow management
3. Monitoring grant-assigned project accounts by analyzing typical expenditures as well as a typical situations
4. Preparing of financial reports as per the projects requirements
5. Coordinating the proper documentation and archiving of all finance documents.
6. Monitoring budget versus expenditure for the various projects.
7. Supporting the Finance and Admin Officer in the review of all budgets
8. Capturing and monitoring of cost recovery from all projects activities
9. Processing monthly payroll and remitting all statutory deductions
10. Preparation of audit schedules and supporting the management in responding to audit queries
11. Reviewing all proposals with the Finance and Admin officer and Executive Director.

Undertaking accounting responsibilities in the following ways:

1. Assisting in preparation of budget and financial reports in the field office
2. Coding payment vouchers and files for data processing and/or payment
3. Reconciling all control and balance sheet accounts under own management and clearing all reconciling items periodically

4. Preparing relevant invoices to various clients for payments and maintaining debtors’ accounts in the project office
5. Facilitating all payments to suppliers
6. Keeping and maintaining all accounting records and fixed assets register
7. Coordinating the process of sourcing, purchasing and supplying goods to the project
8. Reconciling suppliers’ statements against ledger statements monthly and liaising with the respective suppliers in a bid to clear the reconciling items
9. Preparing payment reports to suppliers/community groups , checking the reports against the corresponding invoices to be paid and maintaining suppliers ledger accounts and passing journal vouchers for necessary adjustments
10. Any other duties as may be assigned by supervisor

Level of Education and Experience

  • Degree in Business field such as accounting or finance
  • Professional qualifications in CPA/ACCA will be an added advantage
  • 2 years in finance and accounting function

Other Competencies

1. Knowledge of VAT, Income Tax and other statutory regulations
2. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills,
3. Possess effective communication and problem solving ability
4. Proficient in use of SAGE PASTEL and MS Office applications
5. Ability to confidently interact with client representatives at all levels
6. Attention to detail and accuracy
7. High sense of initiative,
8. Ability to work extra hard and deliver results.
