Introduction: M-KOPA, winner of the 2013 FT/IFC Sustainable Finance Awards, is a registered Kenyan business, founded in 2011 but stemming from pilot trials since 2009. 

The founders of M-KOPA include former executives from Safaricom and Vodafone Group, who also started and led M-PESA. These people form an integral part of M-KOPA as a company.

Data Analyst

 Job Description

Responsibilities
  • Interpret data, analyze results using statistical techniques and provide ongoing reports
  • Develop and implement data collection systems and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and data quality
  • Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources and maintain databases/data systems
  • Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets
  • Filter and “clean” data, and review computer reports, printouts, and performance indicators to locate and correct code problems
  • Work closely with management to prioritize business and information needs
  • Locate and define new process improvement opportunities
Requirements
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a busy business environment
  • Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing large datasets (SPSS, SAS etc)
  • Excellent skills in Excel and Access, SQL is an added advantage
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Adept at queries, report writing and presenting findings
  • BS in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management or Statistics or relevant credentials
  • Strong Communication and interpersonal skills
  • CPA Part II is an added advantage

Firmware Developer

Responsibilities Include:

  • Development of firmware for M-KOPA’s family of solar lighting products.
  • Optimization of the hardware/firmware interaction during new product development.
  • Test management during new product development.
Skills & Experience:

Crucial:
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or electronics or relevant credentials
  • A strong background programming in C
  • Extensive experience developing firmware for embedded hardware in C (for PIC18F family) and in assembly.
  • Willing to travel sporadically outside Nairobi
Plus:
  • Experience analyzing and debugging hardware and firmware interaction at the PCB level.
  • Programming experience with MySQL and the ability to read and modify circuit schematics in an ECAD program (for example, EAGLE) would be an extra advantage
