Ultrasound Sonographer, Clinic Nurse / Midwife at Jacaranda Health

Background: Jacaranda Health is a social venture that aims to set a new standard for maternity care in East Africa. We are combining business and clinical innovations to provide affordable maternity and reproductive health services to low-income urban women. 
As we are building our network of maternity hospitals, we have launched one clinic in Nairobi in 2012, are opening a second one in a couple of weeks and are in the process of launching two more in other locations within Nairobi.

Ultrasound Sonographer (Full or Part Time)

Job Summary: We are seeking to hire Full or part time Ultrasound Sonographers to work in our Maternity Hospitals. 

Reporting to the Director of Clinical Operations, the Sonographers will primarily be responsible for providing quality ultrasound services to our clients, reviewing and analyzing reports and producing the same for physician review.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Explaining the ultrasound procedure to patients and answering any questions they may have.
  • Maintaining the ultrasound equipment and maintaining the room in which the procedure takes place.
  • Performing the ultrasound ensuring the transducer (probe) is capturing images of every angle/section that must be assessed and ensuring the images are of best quality.
  • Maintaining patient’s records and adding medical notes related to the ultrasound procedure if necessary.
Requirements:
  • Diploma in Medical Imaging Sciences/Ultrasound/Radiography
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in sonography/ultrasound
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • Computer literacy, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work effectively with a team in a culturally diverse environment
  • A good understanding of community dynamics. Knowledge and familiarity with low-income urban areas of Nairobi.

Clinic Nurse / Midwife

We launched our first maternity hospital in Nairobi last year, and plan to expand within Nairobi and to other locations in the region. 

Job Summary: We seek nurses with good experience in maternal and child health and a strong commitment to providing friendly and respectful care to all women to work in our second maternity at Kahawa West.

Along with their clinical duties, the nurses will have the opportunity to work with new technologies, quality improvement techniques and work with clinicians and advisors at the forefront of maternal health. 

It is an excellent opportunity to learn new clinical skills, and to receive mentorship in a clinical setting and CME.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive antenatal care, postnatal care, and family planning for mothers and mothers-to-be in Jacaranda’s maternity and/or mobile clinic
  • Provide friendly, helpful service, advice, guidance, and education to all patients
  • Maintain patient data using our electronic medical records systems
  • Provide comprehensive PMTCT services and counseling and referrals for HIV
  • Work closely with the Jacaranda Health management team and teammates to identify and implement opportunities to improve clinical quality and clinic operations
  • Diagnose, treat, and refer as appropriate antenatal, labour and postnatal complications
  • Conduct normal deliveries and assess any complications that may require referral 
  • Advise mothers on issues accordingly.
Desired Qualifications
The desired candidate should possess the following:
  • Certificate in nursing from a recognized institution. A Diploma or Degree in nursing is an added advantage.
  • Registered Nurse with at least 2 years of clinical experience working in a busy maternity, including experience handling complications during normal delivery.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and empathy; equally comfortable providing one-on-one counseling and presenting birth-preparedness education to groups.
  • A commitment to providing world-class care, and the curiosity and commitment to excellence needed for continuous quality improvement.
  • Excellent analytical reasoning skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Computer literacy, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work effectively with a team in a culturally diverse environment.
  • A good understanding of community dynamics. Knowledge and familiarity with low-income urban areas of Nairobi will be an added advantage.
  • Training and experience in any of the following areas is an added advantage Managing labour and delivery, ANC, PNC, PMTCT, FP, BLS, ACLS, ALSO, Ultrasound, Counselling, Neonatal resuscitation etc. Please note that not all are required.
