The successful candidate will be offered a Temporary Appointment for 6 months.

Purpose of the Post
: As part of the on-going process to improve quality of UNICEF’s nutrition programmes, a Data Officer is required to carry out a number of supportive functions to enable the section to provide the necessary technical support on M&E.

Major duties and responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, and the overall guidance of the Nutrition Section Chief, in collaboration with the members of the UNICEF Somalia Nutrition Team and Nutrition Cluster, the Data Officer will provide support to the unit in the following specific areas:

  • Maintain information systems and databases to set priorities for learning, training and development approaches for the purposes of improving programme quality and capacity of nutrition programmes and partners;
  • Support analysis of programme results (from monthly center statistical reports, bi-annual progress reports and monitoring checklists) and consolidation of analysis for use by UNICEF Somalia field staff;
  • Support usage and analysis of third party and field monitoring reports to improve understanding of quality of the nutrition programmes;
  • Work with the UNICEF and cluster nutrition staff to ensure monthly reports are collected from partners in a timely manner;
  • Support on relevant sections of reports (required for donors, management, annual reports, etc.) as required;
  • Any other tasks that may be required (within reason) to achieve the objective of this assignment;
Expected background and Experience:
  • Degree in data management, statistics, social sciences or any other related field;
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience in database management one of which should be at a progressively professional level;
  • Familiar with word processing and graphic software such as Microsoft Office Suite (MS-Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, etc.);
  • Good analytical and writing skills and some research capabilities;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Experience and knowledge of UNICEF programming and planning approach would be an advantage;
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural environment and establish harmonious and effective relationships both within and outside the organization;
  • Efficient time management skills and personal organization.
