Librarian at African Economic Research Consortium (AERC)

The African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) is a not-for-profit Pan-African institution, dedicated for the last 20 years to enabling the advancement of economic policy research and training in Africa. 
The Consortium’s mandate and strategic intent is built on the basis that sustained development in sub-Saharan Africa requires well-trained, locally based professional economists. 
AERC agitates the provision of capacity building in economic policy in Francophone and Anglophone African countries through provision of support in the areas of policy research and training.

AERC is seeking to recruit a suitable individual to fill the following position:

Librarian – Temporary Position 

6 Months 

The position assists the Communications Division in day to day operations of the library ensuring that AERC library circulation, inquiry and stock management run efficiently.

 

Key Responsibilities:
  • Processing of library books and materials (ordering, classifying, bar-coding, cataloguing, indexing and input to the  library system) for access by AERC network and public;
  • Provide reference service within the AERC offices for visiting researchers, students and the AERC network
  • Maintain journal subscriptions, both print and electronic;
  • Provides internet-based research assistance for researchers and other users
  • Produces electronically based regular Library Alerts and Updates for the Secretariat and the network on matters of interest and importance
  • Preparing Input data sheets, online catalogue and an accession register, updating mailing list, typing and labeling materials, press/newspaper cuttings
  • Stock taking of library materials, print and non-print materials and preparing and maintaining timely and reliable library item records through tracking
  • Produce electronically based regular Library Alerts and Updates
  • Charge and Discharge materials for those borrowing and returning
  • Work with Information Resources Administrator to ensure that reports and other information are posted on the AERC web site to provide early and effective dissemination
  • Automation of processes within the library.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Sciences;
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Mass Communication, Book Publishing or ICT  is an added advantage;
  • Working knowledge of publication processes
  • Well organized and able to multi task;
  • Ability to work under pressure and good team player.
  • Availability to start immediately
