Accountant, Payroll Accountant at Kenya National Bureau of Statistics

The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS or the Bureau) is a corporate body established under the Statistics Act (2006). 

It is the principal Government agency responsible for the collection, compilation, analysis, publication and dissemination of official statistical information and its custody. 
It also oversees the coordination, supervision and development of programmes within the National Statistical System.
The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals with excellent credentials to fill the following position:-
 
Job Title: Payroll Accountant

KNBS: Level 5

No. of Posts: 1

Job Purpose: Reporting to the Chief Accountant, the Officer will be expected to carry out the accounting for payroll and personnel related payments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Processing staff payments – allowances and other entitlements;
  • Ensuring accuracy of net salaries after taking into account all deductions and exemptions;
  • Ensuring that taxation is correctly calculated and remitted to KRA;
  • Ensuring timely remittances of statutory deductions and filing returns – PAYE, NSSF, HELB etc;
  • Verifying statements of earnings for employees, indicating gross and net pay and ensuring they are paid;
  • Verifying computerized payroll related accounts- By products;
  • Reconciling of accounts and ensuring accuracy of payroll accounts;
  • Maintenance of records relating to monthly payroll details;
  • Preparation of personnel emoluments budget liaison with HR;
  • Being the key link person between Human Resource Division and Finance Division on payroll matters;
  • Any other assignments given by the Chief Accountant.
Minimum Requirement
  • Have a first degree in Commerce or related field from a recognized University;
  • Be a holder of CPA III or its equivalent;
  • Diploma in Human Resource Management or its equivalent will be an added advantage;
  • Be familiar with workings of a payroll system;
  • Be familiar with Government Financial systems;
  • Posses at least 3 years of payroll accounting experience;
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Resource Programmes (ERP) will be an added advantage;
  • Have a high level of integrity

Job Title: Accountant

No. of Posts: 1Job Purpose: Reporting to the Senior Accountant, the Officer will be expected to carry out various duties as assigned in the Finance Department.


Key Responsibilities
  • Implementing the Bureau’s accounting policies and procedures;
  • Supervision of cash office operations to ensure prompt banking of cash and cheques, timely recording of receipts, payments, reconciliation of bank and petty cash accounts;
  • Handling all bank reconciliations and bank correspondences;
  • Verification of payment vouchers and accruals of funds;
  • Maintenance of accurate and updated accounting information;
  • General Ledger administration and reconciliations as a basis of preparing the financial statements;
  • Monitoring and authorizing Petty Cash expenses and reimbursements;
  • Management of staff imprests and advances;
  • Apportioning of prepayments and County surrenders to specific cost centers;
  • Provide the liaison with external auditors in audit of financial statements;
  • Preparing Project Accounts;
  • Performing any other duties as may be assigned by the Senior Accountant.
Minimum Requirements
  • Have first degree in Commerce from a recognized University;
  • Be a holder of CPA II or its equivalent;
  • 3 years financial accounting experience;
  • Be familiar with workings of computerized financial systems;
  • Be familiar with Government Financial systems and ERP;
  • Holders of a CPA III certificate with more than 5 years working experience may also be considered;
  • Have a high level of integrity;
  • Experience in Project accounting will be an added advantage.
