IT Project Manager at SOS Children’s Villages

SOS Children’s Villages is looking for a highly qualified Project Manager with previous experience in software development projects, ideally associated within the Healthcare market. 
The Project Manager will be based in SOS Children’s Villages International Branch Office in Nairobi, Kenya. 
He/she will be responsible for leading a Healthcare program to design, implement and operate a Healthcare Management System (HMS) across 7 Medical Centers in the region of East and South Africa.

Position Summary: The IT Project Manager will take the lead role and responsibility for the planning, design and implementation of the ICT4H HMS project to significantly improve the delivery of clinical services.

He/she will take the lead in coordinating the overall team to implement the various project components, for delivery on time and within the defined budget.

The IT Project Manager will be responsible for facilitating the collaborative development of technical and clinical user requirements for information systems, including business process mapping, developing use cases and translating program needs into functional and non-functional requirements.

He/she will work closely with the external selected software Provider(s) to design the system according to the requirements, test it, tailor it, train the Users and roll it out across the Medical Centers.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Implement Project Management mechanisms and tools to ensure programme schedule and objectives are met.
  • Responsible for facilitating the collaborative development of technical and clinical user requirements for information systems, including business process mapping, and non-functional requirements.
  • Evaluate often complex situations using multiple sources of information. Solution may require some new planning and resource elements.
  • Lead the tendering process to identify an appropriate Provider(s) to develop the software based on the requirements identified.
IT architecture
  • Accountable for the design and the success implementation of the IT solution at programme level (Medical Center Level) in conjunction with the National ICT Co-ordinator.
  • Responsible of ensuring the innovative design, cost-effective and efficient IT solution for the programme
  • Perform product management functions including working with services Provider(s) to contribute to the product roadmap, manage contracts with Vendor(s), and support on-time completion of program deliverables 
Software Domain
  • Has an understanding of technical aspects of software solutions
  • Is responsible for managing projects according to the International Project Management Standards for software development.
  • Is accountable for the coordination of the requirements management process
  • Is responsible for leading the identification and specification of software requirements by the stakeholders to be successfully implemented by an external software development vendor.
  • Is accountable for ensuring that test plans for user acceptance testing are organized and rolled-out, and that the test to validate that system satisfies business & user requirements
  • Is accountable for software sign-off, delivery to Medical centers, end user training and optimal roll-out
Profile & Competences
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of Project management experience including project planning, budgeting, monitoring, reporting and stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong experience managing IT Software projects, ideally in the Health sector.
  • Demonstrable expertise and vision on the use of ICT integrated into Programs (mainly Health sector)
  • Strong communication and diplomacy skills including persuading and influencing client and stakeholder relationships. The project manager will be the main interface and responsible of the software development company that will develop the software and train users for effective roll-out.
  • Demonstrable experience and capability to manage projects autonomously.
  • Ability to establish strong working relationships with local and international other stakeholders.
  • Ability to professionally communicate and provide writing reporting in English to meet donors’ requirements.
  • Ability to undertake International Travels within the region.
  • Ability to virtually work in a multicultural environment and to handle change.
  • Ability to communicate in French/Swahili
