The National Council for Law Reporting is a state corporation established by the National Council for Law Reporting Act, 1994. 
 
The statutory mandate of the Council is to publish the official Kenya Law Reports which are compilations of the decisions of the superior courts of Kenya, and the revision and updating the Laws of Kenya. 
 
The Council is a leading publisher of public legal information.

The Council is looking for highly organized and self-motivated professionals to serve in the following positions:

Job Title: Assistant Law Reporter (4 positions)
Job Grade: KLR 6
Reporting to: Senior Law Reporter
Department: Laws of Kenya Department
Basic Salary not including allowances:Ksh. 47,272 (2,364) – 49,636 (2,487) – 52,123 (2,620) – 54,743 (2,763) – 57,506 (2,913) – 60,419 (3,073) – 63,492 p.m.

Key Tasks
Duties and responsibilities will entail:-

  • Responsible for all legal research issues in the Department;
  • Track and monitor the legislative developments in the Country and  keep the Laws of Kenya department informed of the same;
  • Collect and collate on behalf of the department Acts, amendments, new regulations, bills and any other relevant information;
  • Undertake departmental research on behalf of the Department on all issues related to the revision of laws;
  • Collect all laws and regulations from the East African Legislative Assembly;
  • Prepare departmental reports relating to revision of laws; and
  • Oversee the work of legal researchers.
Person Specifications

For appointment to this position, a candidate must:-

  • Have served for at least  two (2)  years in legal related area;
  • Have Bachelor’s degree in Law or its equivalent from a recognized institution;
  • Have post graduate diploma obtained from Kenya School of Law after successful completion of the Council for Legal Education Examination or its equivalent;
  • Be a practicing Advocate of the High Court of Kenya;
  • Be a member of Law Society of Kenya (LSK);
  • Have Certificate in computer applications;
  • Have demonstrated competence and ability in editing and analyzing legal issues;
  • Have excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills; and
  • Because the Council seeks to build its capacity in the preparation of Swahili-based legal communications to its customers and the public, fluency in written and spoken Swahili will be an added advantage.
