The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) is the professional organization for Certified Public Accountants in Kenya established in 1978 by the then Accountants Act, CAP 531 subsequently repealed to Accountants Act no. 15 of 2008. 
 
Since then, ICPAK has been dedicated to development and regulation of the accountancy profession in Kenya so as to enhance its contribution and that of its members to national economic growth and development. 

In its endeavor on institutional strengthening, ICPAK is seeking to recruit dynamic, self-driven and results oriented individuals to fit in a team meant to make it a world class Professional Accountancy Organization.
 
Job Summary: The Legal Services Manager shall head the Legal Services Department and shall handle all legal and contractual matters at the Institute. 
 
He / She shall assist the Chief Executive in serving as the Secretary to the Council.
Job Profile
The Manager Legal Services shall report to the Chief Executive and shall perform the following duties and responsibilities as stated here below:
  • Provide strategic leadership to the Legal Services Department and implement strategies to safeguard Institute interests. 
  • Ensuring the Institute’s continued compliance with the Accountants Act, the Companies Act and any relevant laws and regulations as is required. 
  • Participating in negotiating, drawing, reviewing and vetting of contracts, leases, and other legal instruments / documentation to assist and support various business transactions and activities. 
  • Provide legal protection and risk management advice to management especially on contract management and other activities that have a bearing on legal matters. 
  • Managing litigation and liaising with external lawyers on court cases. 
  • Investigation and disciplinary services in respect of cases involving members and auditing firms. 
  • Participate in settlement of cases and arbitration of disputes to protect organizational interests.
  • Participating in negotiations of treaties and contracts between the Institute and other parties/organizations. 
  • Providing legal opinions/advice on legal implications on internal policies, procedures and other business matters affecting the Institute. 
  • Interpreting legal instruments and statutes.
  • Keeping the Institute abreast on developments in the legal field. 
  • Safe custody of Institute’s legal documents, records and securities. 
  • Coordinating and organizing for the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and special meetings of ICPAK members. 
  • Assist the Chief Executive in Council affairs of the Institute and serving as the Secretary to the Council 
  • Ensure that the institute complies with regulations and conditionalities associated with membership of regional and international organizations. 
  • Coordinate preparation of monthly/quarterly reports and responsible for performance of staff in the Legal Services Department 
Person Profile
 
Qualifications and Experience 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) 
  • Masters Degree and postgraduate qualifications will be an added advantage 
  • Advocate of the High Court of Kenya 
  • Certified Public Secretary (CPS) (K) will be an added advantage 
  • Member of the Law Society of Kenya 
  • 8 years continuous experience in legal services of which five (5) years should have been at the level of Management. 
  • Experience/exposure in handling Board affairs as Secretary in Board meetings 
  • Excellent knowledge of corporate operations, corporate law, law of contracts, labour laws and regulatory law.
