Sales and Credit Intern at I Choose Life – Africa (ICL)

Background: I Choose Life – Africa (ICL) is one of the leading Non-Governmental Organizations that has contributed greatly to Sexual Reproductive Health efforts among the youth in Kenya today. 
The organization works closely with the government, universities, communities and has programs in over 210 institutions (tertiary institutions and high schools) across 16 Counties in Kenya and reaches over 1 million youth annually with behavior change communication messages.
Jiinue Credit Company Limited (JCCL) was established in 2012 by I Choose Life – Africa and seeks to contribute to economically empowering communities. 
JCCL offers microcredit short term loans at affordable rates, to salaried individuals and self-development groups such as Chamas, women groups, youth groups, MARPs among others. 
Our objective is to increase entrepreneurship resulting in business startup, job and wealth creation. 
Our goal is contribute to the reduction of poverty, empowering individuals economically and improve the quality of life of the beneficiaries.

Job Purpose: Effective administrative management of the credit facilities in compliance with the JCCL’s operation policies and procedures  
In addition, support counties in the actualization of their county strategic plans aligned to Vision 2030

Key Responsibilities
1. Sales and Marketing
  • Maintain and enhance growth of  client portfolio
  • Identify new clients and business opportunities
  • Business promotion
  • Drive sales and profitability while remaining competitive with others in the market.
2. Customers Management
  • Responsible for ensuring that clients are handled in a professional manner, the information provided is correct and clients are correctly referred.
  • Client relationship management for loan accounts
  • Communicate to customers on loan status and repayment
  • Handle customer issues and take appropriate action to resolve them.
3. Loan Administration
  • Evaluation of loan applications, with reference to risk factors:
  1. Financial analysis
  2. Financial structuring
  3. Loan evaluation and assessment
  4. Collateral
  • Ensure all applicable documentation for loan applications are received from sales.
  • Responsible to ensure that documents for entry are completed correctly with the required authorization and signatures.
  • Responsible for preparing reports and loan statements
  • Ensures that monthly returns/reports are submitted to Finance department
  • Responsible for ensuring that difference between source documents and the system are corrected and that lists are filed correctly
  • Responsible to ensure that costs are recovered in accordance with the prescribed guidelines.
  • Review loan agreements to ensure that they are complete and accurate according to policy.
  • Compute payment schedules.
4. Loans Monitoring, Evaluation & Control
  • Monitor  loans disbursement verses repayment
  • Monitor cash reserves and investments
  • Prepare income statements
  • Maintain finance records
  • Prepare financial reports and present to the financial services manager.
5. Administration
  • Custodian for  Jiinue organizational documents
  • Administration of Agreements with other organizations
  • Filling of documents and providing reports for weekly repayments.
  • Custodian of stationeries
  • Procurement and Supply of marketing materials to regional offices
6. Any other duties and responsibilities in line with loan and finance management
 
Education and Training
  • Diploma in cooperative management will be added advantage
  • Professional qualifications in ACCA or CPA part II
Experience, Skills and Abilities
  • Minimum 1 years hands on experience in cooperative management.
  • Good working knowledge of the current Kenya tax Law and practices;
  • Excellent computer skills and competency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to determine priorities and meet multiple deadlines;
  • Detail-oriented with good multi-tasking abilities and communication skills, both oral and written;
