New Zealand 2013 Scholarships for Developing countries

New development awards in New Zealand are funded by the New Zealand Aid Programme, the foreign aid of the New Zealand Government and development program. They are managed by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT).

The purpose of these scholarships is for candidates to acquire knowledge and skills through higher education in specific areas to assist in the development of their country of origin. Fellows are required to return to their country of origin for at least two years after the end of their scholarship to apply new knowledge and skills in government, civil society organizations and private companies.

New Zealand educational institutions that offer first-class qualifications recognized worldwide. Successful candidates will have access to excellent academic knowledge in quality facilities.

Scholarships include financial support for tuition and living expenses while in New Zealand, and airfares.

Partners of students are eligible for a work visa that allows them to live and work in New Zealand for the duration of the study partner.

eligibility criteria

Applicants must meet the following criteria New Zealand Development Scholarships eligibility before their application will be examined in the light of the selection criteria, including criteria specific to each region. Candidates are required to continue to reside in their country of origin during the fellowship application and selection.

To be eligible, you must:

• be a citizen of a developing new scholarships Zealand participating countries (permanent residents are not eligible)
• be residing in your country of citizenship, preferably for at least two years before applying
• not have citizenship or permanent resident of New Zealand, Australia or another developed country *
• not be married or engaged to be married to a person who holds or is eligible to hold, citizenship or permanent residence in New Zealand, Australia and other developed countries
• be aged 17 years or more before the start date of scholarship
• make a request to start a new qualification and not be seeking funding for a qualification already underway in New Zealand or in another country †
• not have completed, or nearly completed, a qualification at a similar level (ie applicants must apply for a higher qualification than any previously attained), unless strong developmental relevance is demonstrated
• meet the admission requirements of the educational institution in New Zealand in which the qualification is to be undertaken, including English language criteria
• worked in your home country since the end of their highest education qualification gained to date, preferably for at least two years before applying
• be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to the sector in your country of origin, and development of your country in general
• be able to take the scholarship for the academic year for which it is offered.
